GWENI MC

Brighton / UK

David aka Gweni MC started writing lyrics in early 80s. By the end of the decade he was performing on the mic with the Night Heat Soundsystem at reggae dances in the West Country area – particularly around Bath and Bristol. He later on formed a UK hip-hop crew called Directive now (di-wreck) with C Double and Outrun.

In the 90s he got inspired by the underground rave scene and started performing at free parties. After gaining more and more experience and honing his skills Gweni was offered a residency at Ministry of Sound, on the Friday night called Smooth.

In 2011 David settled in Brighton where he met The Mine’s Sibla. After the very first gig with THE MINE in 2012 Gweni MC was asked to be a resident and has become the voice of our movement. Lyrical support all night long!
